SUMMARY:Partner Event: Defeating School Vouchers in Tennessee: Lessons for the Movement\, Hosted by HEAL Together
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, Tennessee faced a huge uphill battle\, fighting to stop a school voucher bill in a state with a Republican Governor and Republican supermajorities in their House & Senate\, backed by a billionaire funded “Americans for Prosperity” advertising and door-knocking campaign. \nIn the face of these overwhelming odds\, they organized across the state and managed to defeat this bill that would have siphoned hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars from public schools and given it to private and religious schools. \nJoin us to celebrate the important victory and learn directly from the parents\, educators\, students and organizers who led the campaign that won this inspiring bipartisan victory for Tennessee’s schoolchildren. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Partner Event: Back-to-School Ant-Voucher Op-Ed Training\, Hosted by Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools\, HEAL Together\, & In The Public Interest
DESCRIPTION:Across the country\, school voucher bills that give taxpayer money to private and religious schools are threatening to undermine and dismantle public education. One way we can fight these bills is by speaking out and informing our local communities about what these bills really mean\, the billionaires who are behind them\, and the wealthy families who primarily benefit from them. \nAlliance to Reclaim Our Schools\, HEAL Together and In The Public Interest are organizing a back-to-school anti-voucher media blitz this August and September\, focusing on op-eds and letters to the editor. Will you join dozens of public school families\, students\, educators and advocates around the country who are learning to write persuasive op-eds about vouchers for their local papers? Join us in educating our communities and pressuring our elected officials to say no to the school voucher scam. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Partner Event: The Art of Conversations that Move People to Act\, Hosted by HEAL Together / Public School Strong
DESCRIPTION:Inviting folks is simple\, but having an intentional conversation that moves someone to take the leap and do something outside their comfort zone – well that is a whole art form. Its also the special topic for our July 11th PSS “Community of Practice” session. \nNo matter what your skill or comfort-level with these conversations\, this space is designed for you to practice and improve your ability to move others into action with you.  This is a critical tool for us all to have to build our movement for honest\, equitable and fully-funded schools into an unstoppable force. \nThere is strength in staying connected. After completing Public School Strong (PSS) Orientation\, this is your consistent space to reconnect with your peers across the country to: \n1) Access helpful tools and practice relevant skills\, 2) Connect the dots between what is happening locally and nationally\, 3) Learn from mistakes and progress made along the way \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Partner Event: $chool Voucher $cam - Virtual Townhall Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Join us to learn the facts about school vouchers and what you can do to combat them. As taxpayers\, we should not be on the hook to fund two school systems. \nREGISTER HERE! \nDID YOU KNOW YOU PAY MORE FOR VOUCHER SCHOOLS THAN RUSD’S STRUCTURAL DEFICIT?\nIt’s true. RUSD’s structural deficit is approximately $34 million. In the last round of state budget school funding\, choice private schools received a funding boost while public school funding remained flat. This year alone vouchers receive $39 million of RUSD funding. Without that loss\, RUSD wouldn’t be facing the fiscal cliff it does next school year and would have money to invest in programs and supports for students.
